Journey of The Creative Storyteller
THE CREATIVE STORYTELLER
How This Fascinating Journey Started
In the year 1997, Laurie experienced a profound family loss. This challenging period led her to seek solace through written words, channeling her sadness onto paper. The result was "The Family Tree," a poignant narrative borne out of Laurie's personal journey through grief.
Choosing to set her story apart, Laurie intertwined her passion for quilting and art into the book. Opting to use fabric for the book's illustrations, she, alongside her friend Shirley, dedicated over 900 hours to meticulously cut, design, and craft the "The Family Tree Story Quilt". This innovative approach not only brought her story to life but added a tactile depth to the narrative, making it a masterpiece in more ways than one.
"The Family Tree the Night of the Storm" has since resonated deeply with numerous families, children, and organizations. The healing message nestled within its pages offers solace and inspiration to those navigating the turbulent waters of grief and loss. Beyond just being a story, the book inspired an art activity that has touched many hearts over the years. Serving as a metaphorical reminder, it eloquently conveys that even when life's storms take away a branch from our tree, with resilience and creativity, we can craft a swing, ensuring that the broken branch remains an integral part of our family tree.
